More About Janey
Janey Wetzel, a senior at George Washington University, is double majoring in Communication and Marketing with a minor in Journalism. Originally from Kansas City and now based in Washington, D.C., she brings a ceaseless passion for writing to everything she does, continuing to develop her voice across multiple platforms. She blends editorial storytelling, visual direction, and strategic brand thinking to build content that feels modern, thoughtful, and culturally attuned, with a particular interest in the entertainment industry and all forms of media.
Janey’s professional experience spans government communications, nonprofit brand storytelling, lifestyle content creation, and editorial work for leading publications, including People. She currently lives and works in New York City, where she serves as an Editorial Intern at the iconic magazine. In this role, she writes stories across a broad range of topics, with a particular focus on her greatest interests: pop culture and celebrity news.
Janey has been passionate about writing since before she can remember. In her spare time, she writes independently on her Substack, crafting narrative-led pieces, usually concerning pop culture topics, weaving in unique takes on serious social issues.
She has supported the Office of Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas as a Media & PR Intern, and then was retained as a Communications Specialist, contributed to event and content strategy at the Institute of World Politics, and developed digital campaigns and creative assets for Inspired Closets KC and The HALO Foundation. Her background also includes strategic partnerships work with the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce.
Alongside her professional roles, Janey runs a photography and creative studio specializing in event coverage, editorial-style portraits, and sports imagery. She is passionate about visual storytelling, graphic design, and translating creative ideas into compelling campaigns and content that live across print, digital, and emerging media.
